We are excited to announce the launch of our latest feature, the Privacy Request module, accessible from the Didomi Console.

As Data Subject Access Requests (DSARs) quickly become one of the main topics of interest for the privacy landscape in 2023, we believe it is paramount for companies to not only have processes and tools in place, but just as importantly, to provide the best possible privacy user experience to their customers.

Whether you already have a system to handle incoming privacy requests, or are looking to implement one, read on to learn more about how Didomi’s Privacy Request module can help.

Summary

What are privacy requests and why organizations should care?

First things first, are you familiar with the concepts of Privacy Requests and Data Subject Access Request (DSAR)

Essentially, a privacy request is a request formulated by an individual related to information an organization is holding about them. Often made under a data protection law, these requests are a way for individuals to exercise their rights to privacy and to ensure their personal information is being handled appropriately by organizations.

A Data Subject Access Requests is an umbrella term, sometimes shortened to DSAR or DSR (Data Subject Request) defining a request an individual can submit to specifically access, delete, or modify the data held by an organization, as well as to opt-out (or opt-in) of any given data-related initiative.

When receiving this type of requests, an organization has the responsibility to take certain actions under certain data privacy laws, within a specified amount of time - depending on the relevant regulation in place.

Sorting through regulations and ensuring that these requests are handled appropriately and on time is challenging, and costly. As a matter of fact, research from Gartner has shown that the cost of manually handling a single request can reach around $1500 per request.

That’s when Didomi’s Privacy Request module comes into play.

How does the Privacy Request module work?

Managing privacy requests effectively comes down to having a comprehensive process in place, centralizing requests in one place, and making sure that each and every one of them is handled appropriately (and on time). We’ve identified 5 steps for a sound Privacy Request checklist:

1) Receiving the privacy request and collecting the necessary information

2) Processing the request and assigning it to the appropriate team

3) Fulfilling the request, by leveraging automation and sound data processing practices (coming soon)

4) Delivering the information to the data subject, securely and in a timely manner

5) Reporting on key metrics to assess the efficiency of the process and improve it over time

You can find the full checklist and more in our latest whitepaper about privacy requests:
